After turning my machine on the other day I noticed that the icons on my desktop had swopped around with other icons. It has also happened to the icons in my Favourites tab. For example, my Ebay shortcut icon now has the Toys r Us icon instead and my Google icon has the Natwest icon. I have no idea how to switch them back. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

So the icons are messed up but they actually do what they are supposed to if you click them? Then you need to rebuild the icon cache.

Just do as IAN suggests HERE or you can try THIS

Yes they still direct you to where your supposed to go. Tried doing what he suggests in cmd prompt and it didnt work. Also tried the Icon Cache Rebuilder programme and that didnt work either. ??

Did you reboot after?

I just read your other thread, I suppose the issue could also be related to the Non Genuine so you should really resolve that first.

yes i did reboot after, i dont think having a copy would be the problem. I've had it a couple of years now and its never happened before. Its only affected about 6 of the 20 or so icons.

Since WAT just caught up to you you may notice things that never happened before. I know the black desktop is part of this "reminder" and your system will also start making you wait a long time at boot and eventually it will shut down after a couple hours use. I don't know if the icons are part of it or not.

Come on Paulo. Really?

Step up and do the right thing. Windows is no longer updating and who knows about your antivirus protection. You're surfing the web with a bad machine and becoming a menace.

Seeking help here with an illegal machine can not and will not be tolerated.

Do the right thing!

LOL!

You seem like a nice person so I'm begging you to look at the bigger picture here. Your computer will no longer receive critical security type updates from MS unless you can trick it or hack it to do so. To ask for that kind of help in a forum like this is unreasonable imho.

There are many free operating systems out there that are on a par with windows.
