Dell Dock phoning home

Does anyone know why my DellDock needs to contact the Internet?
There's a thread over at the Dell Forums about this, but no
resolution on the thread. Otherwise, almost complete silence -- I
tried Googling and got nothing.

Apparently this only happens on machines running x64 Windows,
either Vista or Windows 7. The attempt to connect is coming from
the "DellDock.exe" file. The guy over on the forum tried
uninstalling his DellDock, and then downloading a new version, but
when he used it on Vista x64 the same connection attempts
occurred. He wanted to know, and I want to know, why a program
that holds shortcut icons on the desktop needs to connect to the
Internet.

It's probably just looking for a docking station. Refer to
http://www.pcpitstop.com/libraries/process/i/DellDock.exe.html for some
information. Have a great day.

PC Pitstop Analysis

DellDock.exe monitors to detect a connection to a docking station.
It is probably not needed if you do no connect your laptop to a
docking station.

[end quote]

Ah, interesting. A docking station. Something I would never have
even considered. That may be it. Though why such a monitor for a
docking station would show up as an attempt to call out over the
Internet isn't immediately clear to me. That's my file, though, so
that's probably it.
