Have you visited Control Panel | Default Programs? What did you do there,
and what results did you see?
And what is VLC? Oh, never mind. Bing solved that mystery: VLC Media
Player.
While I don't have VLC installed (obviously), I think I would click Control
Panel | Default Programs | Associate a file type or protocol with a specific
program. Then on the next screen, I would select .mpg or whatever other
extension I wanted and then click Change program and Browse to VLC's folder
and executable. This might get tedious for many media file types, but you
might try it and then post back with further questions. Someone here who
knows more than I do about these things can probably answer them.
