I built my computer (first build) back in Oct '09, which I probably did prematurely, given my lack of knowledge of PCs in general. Anyway, I had this problem then, but because I had been without a PC and the internet for quite a few years, and it wasn't really affecting anything, I decided to enjoy having my PC and not worry about it. I did follow some instructions given then about updating drivers (which I did). Now, I am ready to really learn about the beast I built and fix the problems. This is the error code that comes up when I try to open cpu-z....Help Please?

[bInitDriver] path = C:\Windows\system32\drivers
[bInitDriver] GetCurrentDirectory = C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z
[bInitDriver] GetModuleFileName = C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z\cpuz.exe
[vGetOSVersion] m_iOSVersion = 2 (6.1)
[vGetOSVersion] m_bIsAMD64 = 0
[bInitDriver] m_hDriverMutex = A4
[bInitDriver] m_szPath_2 = C:\Windows\system32\drivers
[bInitDriver] m_szFilename = cpuz132_x64.sys
[bLockDriverHandle 20:01:32] WaitForSingleObject error = 0
[WinNT_bInstallDriver] szMachineName = MIKEC-PC
[WinNT_bInstallDriver] OpenSCManager failed, error code = 5
[vReleaseDriverHandle] release mutex = 0
[bInitDriver] bInitDriver returned 5
[vCloseDriver 20:01:32] WaitForSingleObject error = 0
[WinNT_dwUninstallDriver] OpenSCManager failed, error code = 5
[vCloseDriver] CloseHandle(mutex) = 1

I thought I did, but I will double check. Now, I do have a question. I was at the MSI website a while ago, and they have 8 drivers listed on that page. If I am not doing a RAID config. on my storage, do I still need to download those. Also, do I need to uninstall anything before installing any of those drivers? As you can see, I am VERY inexperienced at this stuff, but I am more than willing to take advise and very grateful for it. and Thank You very much.

You don't need the RAID drivers if you're not running a RAID setup, but if you have AHCI enabled in the BIOS, which speeds up the SATA drives, you'll need to download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver.

You shouldn't need to uninstall any drivers. The RealTek audio drivers will tell you if it needs to uninstall the old one, just follow the prompts and you'll be good.

Ok, I downloaded the realtek driver. It is a zip file, so I extract the zip. Now I have a ton of folders and other files. What in the heck do I do? Which one is the one that installs the new driver? There are files for XP, win2000, vista, vista64. This is very confusing. I clicked on a file that said "setup" it then uninstalled whatever current realtek driver I had. This is definitely a very humbling experience. Thanks to whoever for whatever help they can give. i will check the device manager now..thanks bass.

Realtek before it can update to the newest driver will uninstall the old driver first, then it will reboot the computer. Then you go back to the "setup" file and it will install fine then.

You did fine, you just need to go to setup file and execute and tadaa! You're There!

I realize it is confusing if you're new to all this stuff, but after a while you'll see how easy it really is. In a couple of month or whenever, you look back at laugh at all this.

GREAT!!, I can get the cpu-z to work properly when I am signed in as the administrator, but when I switch accounts to my regular everyday account and try to use cpu-z, it goes right back to what it was doing with the exact same error code. Any other suggestions? lol, just my luck..

You can use the Snipping Tool. Go to Start Menu - Programs

Oh, also if you're the only person who uses your computer, just always login as the administrator. No reason not to really.

Download S.I.W. aka System Information for Windows. It will give you ALL the info about your system you could possibly need.
SIW description:
Displays information about Operating System, Installed Programs, Processes, Services, System uptime, Product Key (CD key)

SIW is a System Information tool that gathers detailed information about your system properties and settings. A utility that includes detailed specs for Motherboard, BIOS, CPU, Devices, Memory, Video, Drives, Ports, Printers. SIW displays information about Operating System, Installed Programs, Processes, Services, System uptime, Product Key (CD key), Users, Serial Numbers, Open Files, Network, Users, Network Shares and more, as well as real-time monitors for CPU, Memory, Page

SIW also displays currently active network connections, Passwords hidden behind asterisks, installed codecs, and more. A standalone tool that does not require installation.
Double check your motherboard manual for the proper multiplier settings for your CPU and the frequency that should be set for it.

I have DDR2 RAM and my frequency is 533.33 which works out to 1066 which is the correct setting for my RAM sticks. Again check your motherboard manual on how to do this correctly.

Go HERE for the SIW download. It's free for non-commercial use and like I stated. It is LOADED with tons of info about your system. It's fast too!

Also check your RAM frequency setting to match the RAM you bought.
