OMG. Last Friday we had a horrendous storm through the country where I dwell. The aftermath was chaos in the electrical/electronic sector. I lost the internet connection (with many others) and my telephone. Only yesterday did I get a rigged partial restore, with my connection only at half speed. I realised, over that 5 day period, how compulsive my reliance on using the internet. I was wandering around , wondering how to fill the day! What a pathetic attitude!!! - and I don't even play internet games!!

Haha, I'm sure that many of us will admit to the very same thing! We moved house a few weeks ago and I had to go without internet access for about 10 days (although my phone did work for just about 15 mins browsing a day).

I hope not too much damage was done during the storm. There's apparently going to be a month's worth of rain falling in some areas of the UK today - it feels like summer has just disappeared.

I don't know if I would call it an addiction, but it sure is a dependency. The Internet has been a part of my daily life since the early 80's when I was lucky enough to be in the US military supporting secure network communications (then part of ARPANET).

It is a daily "routine" to spend a couple (3, 4?) hours on my computer, and when that routine is disrupted, it is like I am in some sort of a daze until those hours have passed and my internal clock resets on to something else - if that makes sense.

So maybe addiction is right - though anxiety and confusion rather than pain and despair is felt.

As someone remarked on another forum. When it happened to him, he discovered that there were actually real people outside and he was in great danger of interacting with them - lol.
