After installing the PL2303 driver for a USB to seriel lead I get a failed to install window after plugging the lead in. In Device manager it states that the driver cannot start (Code 10)
I have a Toshiba Satelite L555 running Win 7 x64.
I install the driver from the disk that came with the lead and is within a Windows 7 x64 folder so assume it is the correct one as per this link: http://www.kawagebo.net/eb/manual/PL2303_Prolific_GPS_1013_20090319.zip
It appears to install successfully and I get a confirmation window to state that. However when I plug the lead in I get the new device found - installing driver window at the bottom right of my screen and I hear a couple of confirmation beeps a few seconds apart. After about 40 seconds though the window is replaced with a 'failed' window to say the driver could not be installed?
As I said above, the device driver has the Code 10 message.
Hi mike, code 10 in Windows 7 etc is from Device Manager in most cases as - device cannot start. (Code 10). And as Clifford says if you can post your system spec OS type and what exactly you are installing you will receive some very good help
(PL2303 driver for a USB to serial lead) is this a USB data cable as the link between the PC and mobile phone ? if so you will need to go to the phone makers site to see if they supply a driver / software for your OS.
I think I have found a solution.
On one of the many forums that discus this very same problem there is a link to this version of the driver http://www.usglobalsat.com/download/546/win_drivers.zip
it is labbeled up as an all in one, and am pleased to say that after uninstalling mine and installing this, that it works.

Win 7 64 bit using Prolific PL-2303 USB to Serial Adapter
I was having trouble with the newest prolific dirvers for my PL-2303 based usb to serial adapter on my Windows 7 64 bit system. I used the drivers found at http://www.usglobalsat.com/download/546/win_drivers.zip and they worked. No more code 10 error. Creates a Com port compatible with my Parallax Basic Stamp.
