Hello Last problem! I promise! On my ASUS P5LD2 SE I get "clunky" internet. About 3 times a day my internet connection, without me doing anything, dies and comes back on. The router goes off and comes back on. That takes about a minute. I suspect that it happens more often but I don't see every occurrence. It never happened with XP. That said, Windows 7 is a vast improvement on XP in spite of this. It messes up my downloads. I use TOR to remain anonymous and it messes up that too. Could it be drivers? Or something else? I have Kaspersky so I doubt if it's a virus.

Have you tried resetting your Router to see if that fixes your problem?

but how?

This is where I reach the limits of my computer knowledge; how I reset a router? It is one of those external ones with the 6 green lights on it when on the net. It says "wireless-G ADSL router" on it. I don't have wireless; I have adsl and that always worked fine in Win xp.

As to your Router pipple9 (resetting) on most Broadband Routers there is a On/Off switch and a Reset (the reset sometimes can only be accessed by using a pen or something similar) Reset will put your Router back to factory settings. Power Cycle is a case of turning off the power to your Router disconnecting all the cables to the Router leaving it for 30 seconds then reconnecting and power on the Router, in many router problems a Power Cycle is all thats needed.

still clunky

I haven't tried anything with the router yet. But the internet connect still rolls over at least twice a day. If I get my modem back to factory settings, what happens to the passwords that my ISP set up for my internet? Do those passwords have to be set up again?

Hi pipple9

Back to factory settings will put the Name and Pass back to default (the ones you had when you first got your Router)

I just did a Firmware upgrade for my Router today and it was as easy as pie. I firstly logged into the router and created a backup of all my settings. I then went to the Router Manufacturer Website and downloaded the newest Firmware. I then navigated within my router settings to a page where I could browse for the downloaded file and upgrade from it.

Once updated, all the setting were changed back to default, even the login and password but a simple procedure of logging back into the router, navigating to the backup & restore area and then restoring my setting from the previously backup and the Router works just like it did before, even the user name and password were restored to what I was using instead of the default.
