I have been trying to find a tick|check mark in the Character Map, but the
nearest I can get to it is the Square Root ( √ ) sign and that is what I
have been using. Would someone put me out of my misery? Also, what is the
proper name of the sign I am seeking as there is an effective search
facility in the Character Map.

There is a tick in Wingdings and Wingdings2.

Thanks Gents. Silly me, must make proper use of my fonts. You have opened
my eyes to them.

No I did not. Now I know about it and the other fonts. Thanks.

I now find that 'Check Mark' is what I should have searched with in the Character Map.

I have Wingdings and Webdings, but no Wingdings2. Where can I get it?

I now find that 'Check Mark' is what I should have searched with in
the Character Map.
It's also worth looking at the Marlett font which has a few Windows system
characters in it.

Unicode 2713 and 2714 are "Check Mark" and "Heavy Check mark"

Ah. Thank you. Don't have Office.
I thought mine had come with Win7, but apparently not. The laptop came
with an Office 2007 trial. I guess that the Wingdings 2 and 3 came with
it.

Raises an interesting point - I was going to uninstall the Office 2007
trial, but if the extra fonts go I'll keep it. Now what would happen if
you downloaded Office 2010 for a trial? Could you get the fonts and
keep them? Or would that in in breach of some licensing agreement? And
would I be in breach of some licensing agreement if I copied all the
fonts before I uninstalled Office just in case they went? I am pretty
sure I didn't agree to anything when I first used Word 2007. And what
happens when the trial runs out? Do the fonts remain?

Those are two - (three) good questions. I would backup your fonts
to another disk/partition, then uninstall Office 2007 and see if
took away the fonts.

Then install the 2010 trial and see if you got them ALL back, or
need to import some from your backup. I'd be interested in the
results if you do that.

Since your computer manufacturer preloaded the fonts, I'd say they
are fair game. Besides, there is no "font police". :)

I can confirm that the fonts stayed after uninstalling Office 2010 trial
version. Of course somebody else may say they lost the fonts after
uninstalling, such is life when dealing with computer programs.

All the Fonts that Office 2007 and 2010 Trial and non Trial will remain when you
uninstall Office. The Fonts are added to the existing ones that you already had
