Change in FireFox password functions?

I use Firefox on my laptop. In XP Pro, the stored name/password always popped into place on a site, assuming I had set it up right.

But it appears this is not the case with Win 7. I always have to input the name manually, whereupon the password then pops into place.

Is this an intended behavior or a bug? If it is intended, perhaps someone could explain why.

I moved this to Software, FireFox is not included as part of W7 and was not even developed by Microsoft so it fits better in the software category.

According to Mozilla the password manager should remember logonid and password if set up to do so.
Set it up to remember passwords in settings
then you should be able to save them for each site, see Support for Password Manager

I don't use that feature because I'm concerned about security so all I can do is point you to the Mozilla Support pages.
