I'm working on a Dell latitude E5400 that is less than a year old. When I upgraded from XP to Windows 7 my CD/DVD device (PLDS DVD+ -RW DS-8A35 ATA) can only be found when you first start up the computer or when you open the CD ROM door. After about 30 seconds it disappears and cannot be found. The device is recognized in the Bios. I downloaded the driver from Dell while the device was recognized but that didn't work. Said device couldn't be found. When running Fix it it said the driver is up to date. Do I need to modify the registry? What are the step by step instructions for that? I noticed this was a common problem based on internet postings.

Hi pegg2sparks welcome to W7 Forums

You may have a corrupt driver so if you go to Device manager uninstall the Optical Drive driver then reboot your PC Windows will make a new driver for your Optical Drive.

Pegg2sparks,
Did you download the latest chipset drivers certified for Windows 7? Also, prior to migrating to Windows 7 from Windows XP did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor?
To determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7 please go to the following link: http://tinyurl.com/no4xb7
Another resource to verify compatibility is available at the Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center located at the following link: http://bit.ly/1gW6Ns
