Cannot restore Windows.old folder

By mistake I reinstalled Windows 7 over my existing Windows 7 Pro, using my OEM installation disc
It created a 'windows.old' folder, but I cannot restore this using same Windows 7 application.
I have followed online help instructions on how to do this via command prompt, but does not work as it seems you can only do this from a previous installed windows version, e.g.Vista, XP
Can someone help me please on how to restore the windows.old folder using same windows 7 Pro installation.
