Can someone tell me......

...... how to gain access to my own PC? I don't feel I own this PC. I feel
MS owns it. >:-( The information online doesn't work with W-7 Home
Premium. Although I'm listed as the Admin and I moved the bar to the bottom,
It still says I need permission to move files. How can I STOP or dismantle
this &^%$#@ thing so I can move WindowsMail to this PC?

Windows Mail is obsolete.
Use Windows Live Mail or choose something else.
Then you won't have to move or change system files.

Give it up. Windows Fail was made for Vista, not for Win 7. Use
Thunderbird, Pegasus, Outlook, Opera or Seamonkey.
As I said before, I've tried some of these and didn't like them. I have TB
on the W-7 PC now. Using another client wont help the next time I want to
move something and get the same "permissions" crap. I'd like to disable the
damn security thing NOW and not be back in a couple of days because of the
same thing with some other files. No one here seems to know how it's done
correctly so the damn "permissions" window don't come up again. User
Account Control setting's bar doesn't do it. That just stops the other
window that asks for permission, not tells you you need permission.

If you really want to be in control of your computer, ditch Windows and
install a real operating system like Linux Mint.
Why would I want Linux when non of my software would work on it? It's a
whole different OS.

It's free and comes
with thousands of free programs including all the email/newsreaders
available other than MS products and Pegasus. Get it at
http://www.linuxmint.com/ You'll be glad you did. In fact, you can run
Windows Fail under Mint in WINE if you really, really want to use that
FAILED and NO LONGER SUPPORTED program.
Wine? Mint? !?!??!?! It would cost me over $100 to have a tech-geek come
out from town and install another OS. I would then lose the warranty on the
new PC.

I'm curious. If you have Linux, why are you on a Windows NG?

Exactly. Linux allows you to control your computer instead of having it
control you.

So your current software would not work - Linux comes with literally
thousands of applications to do everything the average person would want
- all for free.

I am so sick of this guy that he has gone into my killfile. Unfortunately,

Not that I care whether you see my posts or not, especially since I've
never seen you contribute anything useful, but you obviously havent
been watching MANY people here try to pry the most basic details out of
her, and give her much good advice that she pointedly ignores in favor
of more unspecific complaining.

That classifies as whining and trolling in my book, or close enough.

Try this:
Start > type in the run/search bar 'msconfig' (w/out the quotes) then
hit enter. Click or double-click on the msconfig result, then on the
tools tab in the msconfig window, select the "Disable UAC" command,
then click the run button. Reboot. UAC should be turned off then.

It can be done. Google "How to take ownership and full control permissions
of Files & folders in Windows" There are a lot of good tutorials out there.
I can now actually open my own files on my own computer without getting that
dam* red X telling me I don't have permission. It involves a lot of going
back and forth between sharing and security in folder options, but it can be
done.

Ah, but I have been watching! That is the point. If her posts and
dragged on
threads "classify as whining and trolling," then responding is feeding a
troll.
I don't want to eliminate you or any of the other well meaning and informed
posters from my reading. I just want to avoid the long, drawn out and
ultimately
useless threads. When I see a question from Valorie *~~, I know that it
will be
answered fully and completely several times, and each time the answers will
be ignored or misunderstood.

As far as my not contributing anything useful, when I have something
useful to
offer, I do.

Pan will quite happily eliminate threads for you. If you have the Gimp
installed, Pan should install satisfactorily.

Don't listen to Alias - a registered LIAR.

Windows7 is using newer mail clinet called "Live Mail".
There's a way to force old WinMail (you wanted it?) to run under Windows7
but it's probably too complex for you to bother with.

Simply export all messages to new LiveMail.
LiveMail has settings to make it behave/look similar to old WinMail.

Wrong. Windows 7 comes with NO EMAIL CLIENT at all. Some OEM vendors
bundle WLM with their install - along with all the other crap like trial
versions of Office.

And "Live Mail" is not its correct name. It's *Windows* Live Mail.

A minor point? Perhaps. But using the wrong name for something--even
just a slightly wrong name--can get you into trouble.

"Force" is far too strong a word. It's not complex at all. All you
need to do is copy it from a Vista machine,

Some of us may not have a spare computer with Vista on it. I know I don't.
I only have one computer, and it has 64 bit Windows 7 on it. How would I
go about installing Windows Mail, were I so inclined?

Some of us may not have a spare computer with Vista on it. I know I don't.

Then use a two-step copy process. Find a friend who has Vista and copy
it from his machine to a thumb drive, CD, etc. Then copy from that
media to your computer.

I've never tried it myself, but here are instructions:

If I had any friends, I wouldn't hang out in these crummy newsgroups. :)
The few people who will admit knowing me are not running Vista.
*sigh!*

I don't really want to install Windows Mail, I just hate being told I
can't,
a problem dating back to early childhood.

Nope. I just tried it again. It's there.
