can "pop behind" behavior be altered?

Hi All,

I have been working on server W7 machines this week.
I know that the alert pop ups actually pop behind.
So as soon as the hard drive light stops blinking
I look under everything for a pop behind alert.
A lot of them don't show up on the task bar either.
It is a bit nerve wracking.

Is there a switch (registry or otherwise) I can throw
to cause pop ups to pop forward instead of behind?

Many thanks,
-T

AFAICT, the only thing you can do is minimize all windows before the
first pop-up occurs :-(

OTOH, since the pop-ups tend to be centered on the screen, you could
just move all the visible windows off to the side or top or bottom,
leaving a hole to see the pop-ups and a way to see useful info in the
other windows (if the geometry works out OK).

Well, you could watch the task bar for a new icon or a flashing icon,
except that some of yours don't appear there.

Several of the programs I installed had status bars with the blue
blocks. If the blocks stopped, time to start dragging the box
all around the screen to see if anything is behind it. Got caught
for about 2 minutes on the prompt to plug the USB cable into the
printer. Not a very well thought out approach to status pop ups.

Thank you for confirming. Maybe some kind open source programmer can
write us all a utility to switch back and forth.

Or, maybe M$ will fix it in Windows 18. :'(

This doesn't seem very likely to help, but you never know.
