I've had a series of run-ins with the BSOD lately.

Every time I try to install a game from a CD, my Toshiba Satellite suddenly crashes to the blue screen.

The computer cites that the BSOD is a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

The code it gives me is as follows:
*** STOP: 0x000000x3B (0x00000000C0000005, 0xFFFFF800033690C0, 0xFFFFF880B0C5260, 0x0000000000000000)

BlueScreen View cites three files as being the probable causes, at least one of the three being probable cause in each crash:
ntoskrnl.exe (present in all cases)
cdfs.sys (present in 5 of the 10 cases)
tdcmdpst.sys (present in 2 of the 10 cases)

cdfs was not cited in any of the dump files that tdcmdpst was cited.
I'm thinking that ntoskrnl.exe might be the culprit, since it is the least common denominator.

Help?

Hi.

Update your Toshiba HDD Protection (Shock Sensor) software from Toshiba's site, for your model:

thpdrv thpdrv.sys Sun Jun 28 22:02:56 2009
Thpevm Thpevm.SYS Mon Jun 29 04:15:37 2009

If there's an update available to the Toshiba ODD Writing driver, install that as well.

Howdy, and thanks, TorrentG.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, and it's giving me some issues with re-loading - it tells me the installation failed, but when I click "OK" it says installation was successful. I tried to do an installation from a disk again and got the familiar BSOD. :(

I didn't say anything about a disc or uninstalling.

I see what I missed. I'll go through and try again. Thank you very much!

I can't find anything that says it will update any drivers on the Toshiba site - just some drivers which you have to download and install, which is what I did initially. That is to say that my current HDD protection driver is the one taken directly from the website.

I cannot find anything that says "ODD writer update" anywhere.

Edit: As a side note, the HDD has been notifying me when the computer is jostled from my lap to the desk that it's moving the hard-drive pin into a safe position temporarily, so HDD appears to work at least somewhat.

Cool, yeah, see how it goes. If there's any new crashes, you can post them.

Good luck.

I crashed again, same issues, when I tried it earlier. I've had a total of three crashes since the initial message, all of which occurred today. They're included in this message.

Those drivers are still the same, so you'll have to find a way to update them. While at Toshiba's site, also download and install the latest Value Added Package to update those related drivers.

You can check the date of drivers to see of they're updated by going to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and then right clicking on the one you want to look at. Properties. Details tab. Look at the modified date.

Good luck with it.
