browser speed test

Is there really that much of a difference in Internet speed using different browsers. For me there is a whopping difference in using IE 9 (32 or 64 bit) vs Chrome and FF. Why? I have identical settings for all 4.

How which browser you use would alter your ISP's speed is beyond me. But I'm seeing the same sort of effect, IE slower than FF.

Although my speeds are probably only 20% of yours!

I have no difference in speed on IE9 74 bit, FF, Pale Moon or Comodo Dragon.
I have used some tweaks in configuring FF and the FF knock off pale moon that does speed up the browser, but this should not effect upload or download speeds

As you can see they are all about the same
I am paying for 15 down and 2 up so I get better speeds than I am paying for and am very happy about that.

Lot of reading on all forums on this subject. With normal wristwatch timing, But imo, you are off track here. The "Speedtest" is a ping test for your connection. It doesn't relate entirely to your browser. If you ping from a command prompt, without a broswer, you will get the same results.
Browser speed is more related to transition between operations. In this respect, there seem to be variances from computer to computer. In my case, IE9 does beat allcomers -marginally. fwiw, in windows 8, IE definitely has the edge.

http://www.speedtest.net is not a ping test that is separate test. Speedtest.net tell you your ISP speed. What it does is measure the speed between your computer and ISP to a specific server, the speed will vary from server to server. There are tests to measure browser speed. MY FF is slower than IE 9 but that is due to fact I am only opening one site on IE 9 and I am opening 12 tabs on FF

f you mean page load speed you can go to http://www.click2web.com/sitetime.php and measure how long some sites take to load up.

It most certainly is a "ping" test. It can only obtain the maximum speed that your ISP provides. - possibly at that particular time of day, accortding to the traffic volume on the ISP. Any server you test, with the program, will give you the same results, as will any browser.You can check this by selecting the lower option on the site "My Results".
You can also test the quality with the middle Windows "Ping test.net" Nowhere does it refer to a particular browser.
The blurb, which is country language specific, says "First test your connection, Get a fast Web browser afterwards". The recommendation, is a spammed "Chrome"
You can also go to the right of the page, and select the option to "Test your Connection". This will lead you, eventually, to the offer of several uniblue products to improve your computer.

It does a ping test first but it also downloads a file and uploads a file to register those speeds.

I do however wonder how much of the uploads and downloads are handled by the browser itself, for the most part I think of that as being handled by a download manager. I like Super Sarge's idea to better judge Browser speed.

No matter what you are testing, as Dave said, you are also limited by your current ISP bandwidth which for some people can vary greatly based on time-of-day, etc.

Trainable that is what I was trying to say, I believe it up loads and down loads a 1 meg file to run the test. I am not sure about this. The only ISP's that will give a consistent speed are DSL through the phone company here in US and you speed will depend on how far away you are from switching station

I am getting same kind of Downloading / uploading speed . i don't think that browsers can effect the down/up speed .
