Hello there,

Slightly perplexing BSOD here.

A few months back I got repeated BSOD referring to Win32k.sys. After a bit of a net search I found that a faulty printer driver might be doing it. I still had drivers for my grandfathers printer installed despite no longer being at his place, so I removed them and voila, BSOD disappeared. Slightly smug, I forgot about it.

Now, last night I left an older game, Europa Universalis III, running overnight. I awoke to the computer screaming about a memory shortage. I closed down Europa, it went away and I chalked it down to a memory leak in that game. I try not to shut down unless I have to, and left my PC running when I went out today.

I returned 4 hrs later to my PC screaming about memory again and it had automatically closed just about everything. Xfire, Steam, AVG Antivirus, You name it. So I restarted, hoping it would clear the memory of any junk files, and be back up and running.

I have since started to get bluescreens intermittenly, 3 in rapid succession (one at 20:27, one at 20:45, one at 21:03, none in the last half hour luckily) and after some more net research I found a thread on this forum. I have traced it to the following:-

A) It's Daemon Tools and sptd.sys. Since I haven't used it in ages I shall remove it and see what difference it makes

B) It's Norton, but I have never had Norton, I use AVG.

C) Graphics Card drivers. Again will update and see.

D) Voltage issue with memory and CPU. I won't alter this yet. I built this PC so its a possibility but I am a little hesitant to go twiddling with voltages unless I can be absolutely sure its the issue.

E) One of my RAM sticks has died.

I've used BlueScreenView to view the errors and they all seem to point to ntoskrl.exe, and either win32k.sys or hal.dll (the irony does not escape me).

Minidump file is here (for the latest BSOD, I can post older ones if required)

http://www.mediafire.com/?isc9bt36c76bur8

Any ideas? I am praying its not my memory. I cannot really afford new RAM right now. My monitor spontaenously combusted last month (well the power adaptor went bang, but it was 6 years old) so funds are a little dry!

Thanks for any assistance you can give

Rob

EDIT: Update time. Had another BSOD at 23:29. Same error as before. Ran a memory check. No damage reported. I've read that issues such as mine can also be triggered by AVG. Following the advice of a thread here, I have removed AVG completely (uninstall, reboot in safe mod, run the removal tools, reboot in regular mode, installed MSE) and I am currently running a scan in MSE to detect any errors. Will follow by a Malware Bytes check to see if there is anything untowards lurking in the recesses of my hard drives. As I am sure you can understand, I want to run every diagnostic I can before I go out and buy new memory. The last thing I want is to spend good money and find out there's nothing wrong with the bloody things! :). Also prior to the most recent BSOD, ran Windows Upgrade Advisor. Not very insightful but updated Adobe Reader, Adobe AIR etc etc since it said they were out of date. Also updated by graphics drivers to the most recent available. Daemon Tools completely removed prior to recent BSOD also. Essentially it seems it is AVG causing it, or my memory is damaged in a way that Memcheck cannot detect. Fingers crossed, and if anyone can check the dmp I uploaded to mediafire above and using their greater understanding of those files determine more precisely what my issue might be, I would greatly appreciate it.

Try those 2 scans seperately from one another in Safe Mode. Alot of times malware can avoid detection in regular Windows mode. Also add SUPERAntispyware free to the mix.

Aftnoon Squire (doffs cap) and Welcome to The Forum.

STOP 0x0000003B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
Usual causes:
System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory

Your latest dump file lists ntkrnlmp.exe as the probable cause.
This is a Windows System file and for it to be the cause of your crash is highly unlikely.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.
Random stop codes can often indicate hardware issues.

As a Priority:

AVG is known to be a cause of BSOD's on Windows 7 systems. Suggest that you uninstall it. Download the correct AVG Remover for your system (32 or 64 bit).
If you have AVG ID protection installed, download the AVGID Protection Remover from the above link as well (it wouldn't hurt to download and run it anyway). Download BSOD friendly Microsoft Security Essentials as AVG's replacement.
Uninstall AVG through the Control Panel. Re-boot to Safe Mode and run the AVG Removal tool(s). Re-boot to normal mode and install MSE. Make sure your Windows firewall is enabled! After your blue screens have been resolved, feel free to re-try AVG.

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.

HTH.

UPDATE!!!
I've just noticed that you've now removed AVG (sorry Squire (doffs cap again!) must learn to read further!!). As advised above, do your scans one at a time, preferably in Safe Mode. Also, see this post: https://www.w7forums.com/get-bsod-and-crash-debugging-assistance-t9023.html#post75550 taking note of the CPU-Z images to post. As well as those mentioned in the post, add the Mainboard tab to the list of images to attach to a post.

Eidos eh? I wonder what game installed that. Hmm. Will check.

As for the RealteK PCIe and HD Audio update, if I experience any further issues I will update that. So far, fingers crossed, no more BSOD. It seems AVG was responsible. I am familiar with CPU-Z (used it to compare my old and new set up last year) and again if I have any further issues I'll be sure to use it again and provide all the information I can.

So, thus far, issue resolved. But we shall see... Thanks for the examination though, I wouldn't have known about the issues with my RealteK drivers or that Eidos app.
