Big icons a pain in the posterior

Hello Experts,

Is there any way to avoid the big messes made by large icons. I want
everything set to LIST. I could do this very simply with Win2K but I
don't know where the setting is for Win7.

Please advise.

TIA

Hi, jvalh.

Another "pain in the posterior" is a poster who doesn't state the problem
clearly, making us guess what he means by "big messes" - and just WHERE in
Win7 these messes appear. :>(

I'm GUESSING that you mean in Windows Explorer (also known as Computer or My
Computer). And that you're the victim of the developers who decided that we
really DON'T want to see the Menu Bar all the time - so they HID IT! :>(

In Windows Explorer, click Organize to get a drop-down menu. On that menu,
click - or hover over - the Layout option, then be sure there is a checkmark
in front of Menu Bar. You should see the familiar "File | Edit | View |
Tools | Help" appear near the top of the Explorer screen. Now click View
and choose List from that menu.

A quicker, easier way to see the Menu Bar is to just press the <Alt> key,
but then the bar will disappear as soon as you've used it and you'll have to
press <Alt> again each time you need it.

With Win 7 click Start and then choose Computer. Way up on the top right
side is Change Your View - 3rd icon for the right side. Click the down
arrow and you will see a bunch of items. LIST is my choice because it
is a very small icon and big ones I found to be a nuisance and take up a
lot of space. How do I permanently set that List icon? It was easy to do
on Win2K.

I like to see that menu bar, mostly because I have a big screen.

Are you referring to an earlier Windows than Win 7? Windows Explorer I
have with Win2K. I have not see it on Win 7 and I sure would like to.

It's exactly the same in Win 7. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools,
Folder Options, select the View tab, then click the big "Apply to
Folders" button.

You're apparently using Windows Explorer without realizing it. There
are several ways to launch it, but your way works fine.

Copied from above: "With Win 7 click Start and then choose Computer."
