Backup and restore problem

Some time ago, I managed on Windows 7, to set up the Backup and Restore option to work. However, since August it has not worked. Today, I tried to use the Set Up Backup option to start again saving, regularly, important files. But at the stage Review Your Backup Setting, I keep getting this error message. Please advise.

The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)

I've seen it but it's full of technical jargon and it asks me to do some quite complicated manoeuvrings, that I'm not sure I'm confident or qualified to do. Is there any way of knowing what the problem is in simple language and easy to follow suggestions. Might be a case of simply pasting and copying the files I want to save manually, as a far more convenient way of saving important files. I also noticed that even if you take time to follow the instructions, it might not help.

And what is

system profile in User CP/Edit System Specifications?
