Are log files necessary?

I have a lot of large log files (*.log) that I'd like to get rid of. Is
there any reason to keep them once the activity they have logged is over?

You can safely delete them.

You should leave the ones WindowsUpdate.log since if you delete them
it will slow down the update process.
