Why do I have two Internet Explorers on my new Windows 7 computer? One
just says Internet Explorer and one says Internet Explorer 64-bit.

You're running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 which includes two
versions of Internet Explorer, a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version.

What you're seeing is normal.

And I think it's still true that Flash only works in the 32-bit one.

There might be other things besides Flash that prefer the 32-bit
version, I dunno, I mostly use Firefox.

Hi Sharon,

Gene has a really good idea running Firefox.
You should consider it too. You can download it
from http:\\mozilla.com. It is free.

Hi Gene,

I recommend Firefox (FF) to all my customer, as Internet Explorer
(IE) is arguably the entry point for ~85% of the viruses out
there. FF "tends" to keep my customer's safe, although I
have seen "scare ware" get past FF. (Had one scare ware java
script run on my Linux host and tell me my "C:\" drive was
infected. Had a good laugh.)

If one of my customer must run IE on an outdated site that
only works with IE, I install the "IE Tab 2" plug in FF.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ie-tab-2-ff-36/

It allows you to run a single instance if IE inside FF.
You can also program it to do it automatically to if you
wish. That way my customers won't be tempted to stay in
IE after visiting their IE only web page and get clobbered.

You may want to try this :

In IE, go to Tools > Internet options > General tab > Starting page section
and in the address box,
delete the unwanted address.

Click on Apply and OK.

What do you hope to achieve by doing that, and how is it related to
the OP's question?

Copy the 32 bit shortcut to your desktop and use that. 64 bit is not up
to par. Get Firefox.

Thanks, but I meant it less as an idea and more as an excuse for not
knowing much about IE :)

Don't complain. At least he didn't say reformat the C: drive :)

Although his suggestion is more than a bit counter-productive...

Well, I had the same problem as Sharon not long ago,
I applied what I said and it worked.

I mean this in the kindest, gentlest way, but when you say "it worked"
I say "No, it didn't." Thanks for contributing, though. That's what
makes newsgroups great.

Point taken. Things could always be worse. :)

Thanks for the reply, but I already use Firefox and have for years.
When going over programs, etc. already installed on the new computer I
happened to notice that there were two IEs and was wondering why.

Sounds like Carl Sagan's "Well, maybe."

"My house is haunted."

"Well, maybe."

"I was abducted by aliens."

"Well, maybe."
