1628: failed to complete installation

Ihave enjoyed using Windows 7 but I am having trouble trying to install Flight Simulator . I keep getting an error message withing a few minutes of loading the disk. Is there a way around this because I have heard that some users are having better results with this program than with Vista. Also when I go onto the internet the MSN homepage seems to have a lot of missing content which doesn't happen when I use XP.
Any help would be appreciated.

First of all I get the meaasge 'Internet Explorer has stopped working' and then after I try set up the program from 'computer' I get this message '1628: failed to complete installation'. I hope this is enough information but thank you for your quick response.

You could try downloading and installing the latest Windows Installer (4.5). That seems to have done the trick for some people:

I've updated the thread title with the error message so that others with the same problem can find it

The download link for Windows Installer 4.5 doesn't mention Windows 7. Where can I go to download either a newer update or one for Windows 7?
